Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of five-star places in China, and honestly? The Pullman Zhuhai surprised me in the best way possible. It’s right there on Jiuzhou West Avenue in Gongbei – and I mean RIGHT there, which is actually perfect if you’re planning to hop over to Macau since you’re literally a stone’s throw from the border crossing. The first thing that hit me walking into the lobby was how they managed to make this massive space feel welcoming instead of intimidating. You know what I mean? Some of these big hotels feel like airports, but there’s something about the lighting here that just works.

The location is honestly brilliant if you know Zhuhai at all. Gongbei District gets crazy busy during peak tourist seasons – I’m talking shoulder-to-shoulder crowds heading to the casinos – but the hotel sits just far enough back from the main chaos that you’re not hearing honking horns all night. I stayed on the 18th floor and could actually see the Macau skyline from my window, which was pretty spectacular once the sun went down and all those casino lights started twinkling. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from Pullman – clean lines, decent-sized bathroom, and thank god, blackout curtains that actually work. Nothing worse than being woken up by street lights at 5 AM.

What really sold me on this place wasn’t the fancy stuff though – it was the little things that showed someone was actually thinking. The concierge knew exactly which border crossing entrance to use during different times of day (seriously, this can save you an hour of waiting), and the breakfast buffet had proper coffee, not that instant stuff you sometimes get stuck with. The gym’s open 24/7, which saved my sanity during jet lag, and the pool area is surprisingly quiet even when the hotel’s fully booked. I mean, the 8.4 rating makes sense when you add it all up – it’s not perfect, but it hits way more often than it misses. The WiFi actually works throughout the building, parking’s straightforward if you’re driving, and the staff genuinely seems to enjoy helping people figure out the area. If you’re using Zhuhai as a base to explore the region or just need a solid place to crash between Macau adventures, you could do a lot worse than parking yourself here for a few nights.
