So MGM Cotai – honestly, when I first walked into this place, I wasn’t expecting to be impressed. I mean, Cotai’s got so many massive casino resorts that they all start to blur together, you know? But this one actually caught me off guard in the best way possible.

The thing about MGM Cotai is that it feels like someone took all the glitz you’d expect from an MGM property and then dialed it up with this distinctly Macau twist. The lobby’s got this incredible digital ceiling that shifts throughout the day – sounds gimmicky, but it’s actually pretty mesmerizing when you’re jet-lagged and trying to check in. What really sold me though was how they’ve managed to make such a huge space feel intimate. The rooms are spacious (and I mean properly spacious, not that “spacious by Asian standards” thing), with floor-to-ceiling windows that give you these sweeping views of the Cotai Strip. If you’re lucky enough to snag a room facing west, the sunsets are honestly ridiculous – all those neon lights starting to flicker on while the sky’s still orange.

Here’s what I really appreciated: the staff actually seems to know what they’re doing. Check-in was smooth even during Chinese New Year (which, if you’ve been to Macau during that chaos, you’ll know is saying something). The casino floor is massive but not overwhelming – there’s this nice flow to it that doesn’t make you feel trapped like some other places on the strip. And the food situation is solid; their dim sum spot does this har gow that’s better than most places in Hong Kong, which is saying something. The pool area’s a nice escape from all the casino madness too, though it can get pretty crowded on weekends when the Hong Kong crowd comes over. One small thing that bugged me – the WiFi in the rooms can be spotty, especially if you’re up on the higher floors. Not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing if you’re trying to work from your room. The location’s perfect though; you’re right in the heart of everything on Cotai, walking distance to the Venetian and all the other big properties, but the MGM doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard to compete. It’s confident in what it is, which I respect. Plus, getting to the ferry terminal is straightforward – about a 10-minute taxi ride, and the drivers actually know where they’re going, unlike some other spots where you’re playing charades trying to explain your destination.
