Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of fancy hotels in Macau, but the Artyzen Grand Lapa actually surprised me – and not just because of the name change from the old Mandarin Oriental days. Walking into the lobby, you immediately notice how they’ve managed to keep that classic colonial Portuguese vibe without feeling stuffy or museum-like. The marble floors have this warm honey tone that catches the light just right, and honestly, it’s one of those places where you don’t mind lingering in the common areas.
What really sets this place apart is its position along Avenida da Amizade – you’re right on the waterfront but tucked away from the casino chaos that dominates so much of Macau. I mean, you can still see the Grand Lisboa’s crazy lotus-shaped tower from some rooms, but you’re not dealing with the constant foot traffic and that particular brand of Vegas-meets-Asia sensory overload. The harbor views from the upper floors are genuinely spectacular, especially around sunset when all the lights start reflecting off the water. You know what I loved? The fact that you can actually open the windows in some rooms – seems basic, but try that at most modern hotels these days.
The staff here gets it right in that understated way where they remember your name without being overly familiar, and check-in was refreshingly quick even during Chinese New Year when half of Hong Kong seemed to be visiting. The restaurants are solid too – their Portuguese place does this bacalhau dish that’s better than what I had in actual Lisbon, though I’ll admit the prices reflect the five-star rating. Parking is surprisingly hassle-free if you’re driving from Hong Kong, which can’t be said for hotels closer to the Ruins of St. Paul’s where it’s basically a nightmare. One small thing that bugged me initially was the WiFi being a bit spotty in the elevator areas, but honestly, that’s pretty minor when everything else runs so smoothly. The pool area feels like a proper escape – there’s enough greenery and smart layout design that you forget you’re in one of the world’s most densely packed cities, at least until a helicopter passes overhead heading to the nearby helipad.

The staff were all excellent! So much grateful because the environment itself from the lobby, the cafe up to the room was totally awesome. A mom like me who has a child with special needs, sometimes I tend to asked like heating up the milk since he has a difficulty eating, and yet the staff helped me a lot which I was so much grateful. It was indeed a safe environment for him since we do not want some any chaos or too much crowd unlike with some hotels. They are all helpful and I can recommend this hotel so much.

Artyzen is always our go-to option whenever we visit Macao. There is always something new provided in the hotel room which shows the hotel is keeping up with the customer’s needs. Very impressive! The location is excellent! Easy to reach to any part of the city, especially to those who enjoy their walks!

I have been a loyal guest at this hotel for over 10 years, and it never fails to impress. The breakfast selection is exquisite, offering a perfect blend of Western and Asian cuisines, all impeccably prepared and delicious.
What truly sets this hotel apart is its timeless elegance and superior service. The staff are consistently polite, courteous, and professional. It’s always a pleasure to see familiar faces—unlike other hotels that experience high staff turnover. Their warm welcome and attention to detail make each stay truly special.
The hotel exudes an understated, upper-class sophistication. The rooms are tastefully and elegantly decorated, providing both comfort and luxury. The pool is meticulously maintained, adding to the serene and refined atmosphere. This is not the type of property frequented by large tour groups, which ensures a tranquil and exclusive environment.
Every detail, from the ambiance to the service, speaks of class and quality. This hotel remains my top choice, and I look forward to returning time and time again.Michael from United Kingdom (9/10)
