The thing that struck me most was how they’ve managed to nail that old Hollywood vibe without making it feel like a cheesy theme park. I mean, the Roosevelt name isn’t just slapped on there for show – there’s actually some thoughtful design work happening. The lobby has this warm, golden lighting that makes you want to linger (which is rare in Macau, honestly), and the staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing. Check-in was smooth, no weird upselling tactics, and they actually gave useful local tips without me having to ask. Small thing, but it matters when you’re dealing with jet lag and trying to figure out where to grab decent dim sum that isn’t tourist-trapped.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to details that most travelers won’t notice until they’re missing them elsewhere. The rooms are properly quiet – no casino floor noise bleeding through, no hallway chatter at 2 AM. The beds are actually comfortable (not just expensive-looking), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without playing Tetris with your luggage. The bathrooms have that rainfall shower situation that actually works, plus decent water pressure, which honestly can be hit-or-miss in this part of town. And here’s something I appreciated – the WiFi doesn’t crap out every time more than three people try to use it simultaneously.

The area itself is pretty solid for exploring. You’re close enough to the action on the Cotai Strip that you can walk there in about ten minutes, but Taipa has its own charm if you venture beyond the main tourist drag. There are some excellent local restaurants tucked away in the side streets – the kind of places where you’ll see families having their Sunday dinners, not just hotel guests following TripAdvisor recommendations. Parking is available if you’re planning to explore the outer islands, though honestly, the taxi situation is reliable enough that you probably won’t need it.

Look, the 8.1 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Macau, but it delivers on the fundamentals while adding some genuine personality. The price point feels fair for what you’re getting, especially considering the location and the fact that you’re not paying extra for amenities you’ll never use. If you’re the type who values a good night’s sleep and a base that feels more like a hotel than a casino complex, this place is worth considering. Just don’t expect it to be the cheapest option – quality costs a bit more, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  This is our favourite place to stay when in Macau. The hotel is beautifully designed… down to the air vent panels and coffee cups in the room. It is a little isolated and, therefore, is not over-run by tourists. Our room has a beautiful, open view of Hengqin (China) across the river. The jogging/cycling path along the river is not far from the hotel.
  
  The in-room facilities rivals any top-tier hotel. There is a one-time setup of drinks in the fridge and bath salts in a beautiful, functional bathroom with separate shower stall & toilet.
  
  There is an excellent Chinese restaurant and a good coffee shop (we have not tried the sushi place) as well as a convenience store in the hotel. The staff are generally friendly and accommodating. I cannot comment on the huge pool deck as we did not use it but it look’s busy on weekends.
