Macau Hotel S – Formerly – Macau Hotel Sun Sun Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Macau Hotel S – Formerly – Macau Hotel Sun Sun on Praca Ponte E Horta, you immediately get that authentic Macau vibe — it’s tucked right into one of those charming Portuguese-style squares that make this city so unique. The building itself has character, and honestly, the location is what really sets this three-star place apart from the casino resort giants. You’re not dealing with massive crowds or overwhelming lobbies here, which I actually found refreshing after all the glitz elsewhere in the city.
The Perfect Spot
Here’s what I mean about the location being special — you’re literally steps away from some of Macau’s most historic neighborhoods, and couples seem to absolutely love it (they rate the location 9.1, which is pretty impressive). The square itself is this lovely little pocket where you can grab coffee in the morning and watch locals go about their day. You know what’s great? You can walk to the Ruins of St. Paul’s in about ten minutes, but you’re also close enough to the modern casino areas when you want that action. It’s like having the best of both worlds without being stuck in either extreme.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable — nothing fancy, but everything worked properly and the air conditioning was a lifesaver during Macau’s humid summer months. The beds are decent quality, and I appreciated having enough space to actually unpack my suitcase (something you can’t always count on in this price range). The bathroom was compact but functional, with good water pressure in the shower. Sure, you’re not getting marble countertops or designer fixtures, but for a three-star property, it delivers exactly what you’d expect.
Getting Around
One thing that really struck me was how easy it is to navigate from here — you’re close to bus stops that connect you to different parts of Macau, and taxi drivers actually know where this square is (trust me, that’s not always a given with some of the smaller hotels). The nearby streets have local eateries where you can get authentic Macanese cuisine without the tourist markup. I found myself coming back to the square in the evenings just because it has this relaxed atmosphere that’s hard to find in the busier parts of town.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a resort with pools and spas, but it’s exactly what many travelers to Macau are actually looking for — a solid base that doesn’t break the bank and puts you right in the heart of things. The 8.4 rating makes sense when you consider the location quality and the straightforward, no-nonsense approach. If you want to experience Macau’s unique blend of Portuguese and Chinese culture rather than just hitting the casinos, this spot gives you that authentic neighborhood feel while keeping you connected to everything else the city offers.

One of the best features is that they offer luggage storage both before and after check-in, which was very convenient.
