When I first pulled up to Shenli Road, I thought I might have the wrong address because the area feels pretty industrial and sort of tucked away from the main Zhongshan action. You know what though? I mean, the lobby looks fine enough – clean, modern-ish, the usual purple branding you’d expect – but there’s this feeling that maintenance isn’t quite keeping up. The staff at check-in were polite, don’t get me wrong, but there’s definitely a language barrier if you don’t speak Mandarin, which is pretty standard for this part of Guangdong province honestly. The room itself was… well, it had everything you’d technically need (bed, bathroom, AC that worked), but I noticed some wear around the edges that made me wonder when things were last properly updated. The shower pressure was actually decent though, which was a pleasant surprise.

Here’s the thing about staying in Tanzhou – you’re really banking on having your own transportation or being comfortable with DiDi because you’re not exactly in walking distance of much. There’s a few local restaurants within a reasonable distance, and honestly some of the best Cantonese home-style cooking I’ve had was at this little place about ten minutes away (though I couldn’t tell you the name since I can’t read the characters). The hotel itself sits in what feels like a developing area, so you’ll hear some construction noise during the day, but it quiets down by evening. Parking was actually no problem, which is more than I can say for hotels closer to the city center. I guess what I’m saying is – manage your expectations here. This isn’t going to be your Instagram-worthy boutique experience, and given some of the reviews I’ve seen, it seems like consistency might be an issue. But if you need something basic and affordable in this specific part of Zhongshan, and you’re not expecting luxury, it could work for a night or two. Just maybe have a backup plan ready.
