Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the InterContinental Zhuhai – I mean, it’s right there on Qinglv South Road in the thick of Xiangzhou District, and you know how some city center hotels can feel a bit impersonal. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The lobby hits you with that understated elegance thing that IHG does well – marble floors that don’t echo too much (thank god), and these massive windows that frame Zhuhai’s skyline pretty perfectly. What really got me though was how the staff handled check-in without that robotic five-star routine some places do. The front desk manager actually knew the area well enough to steer me away from the tourist trap restaurants and toward this incredible dim sum spot about ten minutes’ walk away. You’ll find yourself right in the heart of things here – the Zhuhai Museum is practically next door if you’re into that sort of thing, and honestly, the location puts you within striking distance of both the business district and the more interesting local neighborhoods without feeling like you’re stuck in hotel-land.

The rooms themselves are spacious by Chinese hotel standards, and I appreciated the little touches that show someone was actually thinking about what travelers need. The blackout curtains work properly (seriously underrated feature), the shower pressure is excellent, and there’s enough desk space to actually spread out your laptop and papers without playing Tetris with the complimentary water bottles. What really sold me was the view – depending on which side you’re on, you’ll either get the city sprawl or glimpses of the Pearl River, and both have their charm depending on your mood. The 8.8 rating makes sense when you factor in things like the quiet air conditioning (runs all night without that annoying cycling noise) and the fact that housekeeping doesn’t bang on your door at 8 AM. Room service is solid too, though I’d recommend venturing out for dinner since Zhuhai’s food scene is having a bit of a moment right now, and you’re perfectly positioned to explore it from here. The fitness center stays open late, which saved me more than once after long business dinners, and the pool area – while not huge – has this nice enclosed feeling that makes it feel more private than it probably is. If you’re here during the humid summer months, you’ll appreciate that the building’s climate control actually works throughout the common areas.

  The location was the best with a short walk to the railway station and yet just across the beach. the staff was very helpful especially with the Didi car service where the diriver didn't have the change and the conscierge dashed about to help get the change. We thought that was going beyond the call of duty. At the end he still couldn't get the change but did a direct transfer from his personal account to the driver and so we just gave the difference to him for his effort.

  The Breakfast was great and the room was spacious. The water power of the shower was also amazing. The staff's attitude was superb. Everyone was friendly and so helpful.
