I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Holiday Inn on Bailian Road, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked into this busy commercial stretch in Xiangzhou District, and from the outside it looks like, well, a Holiday Inn. But you know what? Sometimes the familiar brands surprise you, and this one actually gets a lot right for Zhuhai.

The location is pretty smart if you think about it. You’re right in the thick of things without being stuck in tourist trap central – Bailian Road has that authentic local energy with decent restaurants and shops that aren’t marking up prices for visitors. The staff here seems genuinely used to international guests (not always a given in Chinese cities), and check-in was surprisingly smooth even with my terrible Mandarin. The lobby has this modern but not-trying-too-hard vibe, and honestly, after a long travel day, that Holiday Inn consistency felt reassuring rather than boring.

What really won me over was how the rooms actually maximize the space – I mean, Zhuhai isn’t cheap real estate, but they managed to fit everything you need without that cramped feeling you get in a lot of city hotels. The beds are properly firm (none of that sinking-into-quicksand situation), and the air conditioning works like it means business, which you’ll appreciate during Zhuhai’s humid summers. I was on the seventh floor facing inland, and surprisingly, the traffic noise from Bailian Road wasn’t too intrusive – though if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe request a higher floor just in case. The Wi-Fi is solid, which matters more than people admit when you’re trying to navigate a new city or stay connected back home.

Here’s the thing that local hotels sometimes miss – the breakfast actually includes both Western and Chinese options that don’t taste like afterthoughts. The congee was legitimately good, and they had real coffee, not just instant packets. Small details, but they add up. The hotel’s positioning means you can walk to some excellent Cantonese seafood places (there’s this spot about three blocks east that locals line up for), and you’re close enough to the waterfront areas without paying waterfront hotel prices. If you’re planning to explore Macau, the ferry terminals are totally manageable from here – about fifteen minutes by taxi, maybe twenty-five if traffic’s being difficult.

Look, it’s not going to be the most Instagram-worthy stay of your life, but sometimes you want a place that just works well. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me – it’s the kind of hotel that doesn’t have any major flaws, does the basics really well, and leaves you feeling like you made a smart choice rather than compromised. For Zhuhai, where you’re probably balancing sightseeing with maybe some business meetings or Macau day trips, that reliability is worth more than fancy amenities you won’t use anyway.

  The hotel was excellent. Local driver told us that this hotel is new open while all the facility really new and nice. Our room was clean up neat and tidy. Hotel have lots of new technology stuff and provide self service wash clothes which is free of charge. Front desk staff was polite and professional. Definitely will stay again when I visit the place.
