Holiday Inn Macau by IHG Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Holiday Inn Macau by IHG, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical business hotel chain property. The lobby feels more refined than you’d expect from a four-star Holiday Inn — there’s actually some character here, with thoughtful design touches that nod to Macau’s unique Portuguese-Chinese heritage. I mean, it’s still recognizably a Holiday Inn, but they’ve clearly put effort into making it feel more upscale and locally connected than the cookie-cutter properties you’ll find elsewhere.
Location & Neighborhood
The location on Rua de Pequim is honestly one of the hotel’s biggest selling points — couples consistently rate it 9.0, and I can see why. You’re positioned perfectly between the old colonial heart of Macau and the glitzy casino district, which means you can walk to the Ruins of St. Paul’s for morning photos, then stroll over to the Venetian or City of Dreams for evening entertainment. The ferry terminal to Hong Kong is also just a short taxi ride away, making day trips incredibly easy. What I really appreciate is that you’re close enough to everything without being stuck in the middle of the casino chaos — you actually get some peace when you want it.
The Room Experience
The rooms are well, exactly what you’d hope for from a modern Holiday Inn but with some nice local touches. They’re spacious enough that you won’t feel cramped (important in a city where hotel rooms can be notoriously small), and the beds are genuinely comfortable — I’m talking proper sleep, not just “good enough for a few nights.” The bathrooms are clean and functional, though nothing particularly fancy. You know what I liked most? The city views from upper floors actually give you a real sense of Macau’s fascinating architectural mix of Portuguese colonial buildings and modern towers.
Amenities & Wellness
Here’s where Holiday Inn Macau by IHG really surprised me — the spa and wellness facilities are genuinely impressive for a four-star property. The fitness center is well-equipped (not just two treadmills and some rusty weights), and the hot tub is perfect after a long day of exploring the city’s hills and cobblestone streets. The spa treatments lean into traditional Chinese wellness practices, which feels authentic rather than gimmicky. It’s the kind of place where you can actually unwind between sightseeing and casino visits, rather than just crash in your room.
Why Guests Love It
The breakfast buffet deserves a mention — it strikes that perfect balance between international options and local Macanese specialties that you won’t find at every hotel. But honestly, what keeps people coming back is the combination of that stellar location (recent guests rated it 8.8) and the fact that you’re getting solid, reliable comfort without paying Cotai Strip prices. It’s the kind of place where everything just works smoothly, the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give useful recommendations, and you feel like you’re staying somewhere that understands both international travelers and local culture. For couples especially, it hits that sweet spot of romance and practicality that makes a Macau getaway memorable.
