Hotel Description

You know what really struck me about the Grand Dragon Hotel? It’s tucked away on Rua de Chaves in Taipa, which honestly feels like the sweet spot between Macau’s casino chaos and actual livable neighborhoods. I mean, you’re literally a few minutes from the Venetian’s madness, but when you step outside the Grand Dragon, there’s this completely different vibe – more residential, with actual Portuguese cafes where locals grab their morning coffee instead of tourist traps.

The hotel itself has that solid 4-star feel without trying too hard to be fancy. The lobby’s got this understated elegance thing going on, dark wood and marble but not overwhelming, and the staff actually remembers your name after a day or two (which surprised me, honestly). My room on the eighth floor had this great view toward the old Portuguese buildings – you could see the terracotta roofs and those narrow alleyways that make Taipa feel like a small European town that somehow ended up in China. The beds are properly comfortable, none of that rock-hard mattress nonsense you sometimes get, and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually works. Only minor complaint? The walls aren’t super thick, so if you get stuck next to a family with kids, you’ll know about it – but that’s pretty standard for this price range.

What I really appreciated was how the Grand Dragon sits in this pocket of Taipa where you can walk to proper dim sum places (there’s this incredible spot two blocks down that doesn’t even have an English sign), but you’re also close enough to hop on the free shuttle buses that’ll get you to the big casinos in ten minutes. The area gets quiet after 9 PM, which is either perfect if you want to decompress, or slightly boring if you’re looking for late-night action – depends what you’re after, I guess. Parking’s included if you’re renting a car, which is actually a big deal since most places charge extra. The 8.6 rating makes total sense to me – it’s that kind of place where everything just works without drama, the price feels fair for what you get, and you’d definitely stay again without thinking twice about it.

  • Daniel from United Kingdom (8/10)

Nice hotel, good location not too far from Taipa Village – bed was ok but on the small size – there was enough floor space to push two singles together with a topper layer to create a superior queen size bed experience, but was just a standard double.

  • Zelin from Hong Kong (8/10)

The location was perfect-close to Tapai centre-and easy walk to the Cotai strip past the wetlands…The local buses cheap and easy to use..easy to get to Macau(with Senado Sq) and Fisherman's Wharf using these..Alice particularly helpful on reception

  • Bryan from Singapore (8/10)

Convenient location very near the LRT. Convenience stores and 24 hour supermarket 200m away.

  • Evelyn from Malaysia (8/10)

    comfy bed & pillows

  • Rachel from Singapore (9/10)

The hotel looks dated but it was really clean and the location was fantastic. It's within walking distance to the Cunha Bazaar and the famous Venetian Macao is within a short bus ride away. There are also many famous local breakfast shops around the area so you'll still be spoilt for choice even if you didnt get the hotel breakfast.
