You know what? When I first walked up to City Inn Macau on Rua de Cinco de Outubro, I wasn’t expecting much from a 2-star place. But honestly, this little spot surprised me in all the right ways – and I mean that in the most genuine sense, not in some “exceeded expectations” marketing nonsense.

The thing about this hotel is it sits right in the heart of old Macau, and I’m talking about the real Macau here, not the glitzy casino strip that everyone thinks of. You’re literally surrounded by those narrow Portuguese colonial streets where locals actually live and work. There’s this amazing Portuguese bakery maybe two minutes away where you can grab proper pastéis de nata for breakfast (way better than the tourist traps), and the whole area has this lived-in feel that’s getting harder to find. The rooms are… well, they’re exactly what you’d expect for the price point, but here’s the thing – they’re clean, the AC actually works (crucial in Macau’s humidity), and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. I slept better there than I did at some fancy places, honestly. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions – they actually gave me directions to a local dim sum spot that ended up being incredible.

What really won me over was the neighborhood vibe. Evenings get a bit lively with locals hanging out on the street corners, but it never felt unsafe or overly chaotic – more like you’re getting a peek at real life in Macau. The morning sounds are actually pretty charming – you’ll hear vendors setting up shop, neighbors chatting in Cantonese and Portuguese, and there’s this old guy who feeds the street cats every day around 7 AM. Sure, if you’re looking for a pool or room service or whatever, this isn’t your place. But if you want to stay somewhere that feels authentic and won’t destroy your budget, City Inn Macau actually delivers. Plus, you’re close enough to walk to all the major sights when you want that tourist experience, but you get to come back to something that feels more real at the end of the day.

  The bed is super super comfy ! Had one good good sleep there! Soft and warm! Ac working just fine and the curtains are automatic! Very close to the major attraction. The pajama is quite comfy too. Got two big bottle of water.
  
  What could be improved: There are some noise in the afternoon from the restaurant across the street but at night there is nothing. So all good.
  
  The exchange plug is not working super well… but the staff helped solved it.

  a nice hotel where you can stay for a short period. Nice beds, the room has all the important things.
  
  What could be improved: In the description of the room it was written about soundproofing, but it is not there at all. I could hear everything that was happening on the street, I could even hear the neighbors talking in the other room. I can hear people walking down the corridor. At night, at about two o'clock, a garbage truck arrives near the hotel and it can be heard very well:(
